After a cool start, we enjoyed a nice day for the hike, with sunny and warm conditions for lunch. The trails had a thin layer of mud from the remnants of last weeks snowfall, but the only snow consisted of patches in the tall grass. The Merlin Loop trail was quite busy with cyclists, but all were friendly so we didn’t have any problems negotiating right of way.

After lunch, there were hardly any cyclists on the Long Distance trail so we made good time, arriving back at the cars by 3:30.
