A fine summer day in the foothills started out under cloudy skies that slowly cleared as the day went on. The dry conditions reduced one of the creek crossings to a non-issue:

It stayed pleasantly cool as we ascended South Volcano Ridge and we made good time to the south outlier. Below that some of the vegetation gave hints of the coming autumn:

After a rest there we had the second climb up to the main summit:

Views were excellent in all directions with little evidence of fire smoke. After a leisurely lunch / nap time we headed back under steadily warming temperature as the clouds had largely dissipated. At a sunny break at the top of the south outlier we had a flyby of a flock of crows checking us out for carrion possibilities. There was time for a group photo:
