A combination of smoke and cloud made for a dull and kinda depressing start to our hike. Luckily the smoke situation got better as the day progressed and by the time we reached the viewpoint the sun was peeking thru the clouds. After a pleasant hike to Frozen lake we tackled the sketchy trail to Taiga viewpoint, once upon a time there was a path traversing the steep gully but no more, crossing it requires extreme care as a slip would have serious consequences

Carefully crossing the gully

Once safely across we followed the scree ramp next to a low rock band. Two in the group chose to scramble up rubble covered ledges in a more direct line to the summit

A direct line to the top

Back on solid ground. Frozen Lk.below

We enjoyed a long rest on the summit following the progress of a solo scrambler on the east ridge of Mount Fox

A hazy view of Elk lake and valley

As nobody was too keen in going back the same way we came down in good scree to the lake and went around in a clockwise direction with no major problems.

Circling the lake.We came down the scree gully on the right
