We made this hike into a loop by going up the Volcano Ridge trail, cutting east on the link trail, and then climbing South Volcano Ridge from the north.

Approaching South Volcano Ridge

It was about 1:15 when we reached the summit and sat down for lunch, where we were immediately inundated by hordes of small midges (non-biting). that made the stop less than pleasant.
During the 30 minute stop, we enjoyed the spectacular surrounding views with little evidence of smoke.

Volcano Ridge

The trail down the ridge is getting more defined every year and 15 pairs of eyes watching for red flags made the hike down quite fast. We got back to the cars about 3:15 PM, having walked 11 km with a total ascent of 442 meters.
