Three ramblers set out from Fish Creek at a brisk pace and reached the ridge above Hidden Lake campground in 2 hours. Here we got an excellent view of the ledges below Pika and compared the view to Alan Kane’s  photo and route directions.  Although the lower ledge looked easier we stuck with Kane’s direction and took the middle ledge which proved to be the correct decision.

.

After a slog across loose shale on the ledge we reached the col between Richardson and Pika without any problem.  We made use of a few snow patches to gain elevation but they could also have been bypassed if icy.

From the col to the summit the rock is stable and easy to climb.  There is a short narrow ridge on top and room for one at a time on the highest point.  But there was room nearby to enjoy lunch and not much smoke to impede the views.

We returned the same way. We hiked 21.5km and gained about 1380 metres in 9 hours.

Many thanks to Bill and Chip for joining c/s Damian and making the trip a success.
